Ultimate Turkey Sandwich

September 2, 2010

What I’ve come to realize about sandwiches is that I really prefer them hot/toasted/grilled.  I think it just makes the

flavors play with each other more, instead of tasting like their components.  I made the ultimate turkey sandwich one night with fresh roasted Dilly Barbecued Turkey breast, Homesick Texan’s tomato jam recipe and avocado (which makes any sandwich awesome), Gouda and wheat bread.  That all got toasted in a pan and smelled totally divine.  It was the ultimate turkey sandwich, and I’ve posted all the links to make it.  Serves 2.

2 slices Gouda

2 T tomato jam

Dilly Barbecued Turkey, sliced

6 slices of avocado

4 slices wheat bread

Spread tomato jam on 2 slices of bread.  Top each with slice of Gouda, turkey and avocado.  Top with the remaining bread.  Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat.  When hot, coat with cooking spray and place sandwiches in pan.  Cook for 3-4 minutes, until bottom of bread is golden brown.  Flip (coating with more spray if necessary) and cook until remaining side is brown and cheese is melted, about 2-3 more minutes.  Serve hot.
