I was lucky that my mom’s visit this weekend coincided with Mother’s day, and we had a lunch on Sunday with both of our moms to celebrate.  And what says mother’s day more than vodka?  To begin the lunch I made this drink, which is sweet and delicious, and probably as good without the vodka as it is with it,  but I didn’t bother to find out.  The rosemary flavor isn’t overwhelming at all, so don’t be afraid to try it.  Serves about 5.

1 c fresh lemon juice

1 c sugar

2 8″ sprigs fresh rosemary

Club soda or seltzer

In a small saucepan, bring lemon juice, sugar and rosemary to a boil and stir until sugar dissolves.  Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 minutes.  Turn off heat and let cool for at least an hour.  Fill each 8 oz glass with ice, then add 2-3 T of the lemon syrup, vodka to taste  (2-3 T recommended) and 4 oz (1/2 c) club soda or seltzer.  Stir to incorporate and serve.

WOW! You’ll have a hard time topping this Mother’s Day lunch, Sarah! I loved the rosemary lemonade – tart but sweet, with the rosemary adding a delicious dimension to this grown-up drink.
