Posting a recipe for lettuce wraps somehow makes me feel like I’m posting recipes for TGI Friday’s dishes or something…next thing you
know, I’ll be posting about jalapeno poppers.  I don’t even know if chain restaurants carry lettuce wraps, but it’s conjuring that up for me nonetheless.  Anyhow, this recipe attracted me with the slaw and [...]

Here’s a good one for while I’m away.  These noodles make a quick dinner on a busy workday. Shanghai-style noodles are thick, dense wheat-flour noodles that have a chewy texture. You can also use Chinese-style egg noodles; cook them for only 1 minute and use only 6 Tbs. of the chicken stock for braising the [...]

Is sticky a good word to use to describe food?  I’m so-so on  it.  I’ve seen it pop up a lot lately in recipes, and seems to indicate that something’s made with honey.  That’s always good.  Despite being iffy on whether or not I wanted a sticky lunch, I decided to make this recipe last [...]

See, I told you we’d be back to regular programming after the soup and here’s a noodle dish for you.  Last night’s cold weather called for something warm and spicy, and a recipe on Smitten Kitchen for chili garlic noodles caught my eye.  I didn’t use that exact recipe, and instead adapted one I found [...]

You can see how much soup that minestrone yielded last week, since I haven’t cooked or posted in a while.  But, I’m back with a good recipe.  Haley said she liked Dan Dan noodles, and I had a recipe knocking around that I wanted to try, so here we are.  These dan dan noodles have [...]

Last night felt like my first reasonably healthy meal since the holidays…if you don’t count the ice cream run.  This simple stir fry is loaded with vegetables and can be made with lean chicken or tofu for a vegetarian version.  The sauce for this tastes like a really traditional stir-fry sauce- a little salty, sweet [...]

Yeah, long title but easy recipe!  I probably don’t give you enough great weeknight recipes, so I’m happy to share one with you today (Justine- this is a good,  quick one to fulfills the meat and 2 request from Chris!).  I saw it in Gourmet while I was home over Thanksgiving and I couldn’t wait [...]

I love Chinese black bean sauce, but hadn’t found a really great way of making it, either with jarred black bean sauce base or by making my own sauce with fermented whole beans.  Until now!  The farmer’s market now carries the best black bean sauce I’ve ever had.  You can use any black bean sauce [...]

Chinese broccoli is kind of like broccoli rabe in looks, but its sweeter than broccoli rabe.  I love this preparation, served with straw mushrooms and in an oyster sauce.  Serves 4.
Ingredients:
2 bunches Chinese broccoli (gai lan), thick ends trimmed off
1 t canola or vegetable oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1 t minced ginger
3 T chicken broth or [...]

Tuesday night I made this recipe from Blazing Hot Wok, and it was kind of amazing.  I believe it’s based on a Martin Yan recipe and if the rest of the book is anything like this, it might be going on my Christmas list.  I modified this a bit to accommodate the ingredients I had [...]
